Places to take your Mum on the Wirral this Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day: Keeping it Local; Making it Special
With Mother’s Day approaching, we all want to make our mums feel a bit special. But how? Some of us have everything planned out, but others… not so much. Here are some great local places to take your Mum in and around the Wirral where you can make her feel as special as she deserves.
Remember When, New Brighton
Whether you’re taking your mum for morning coffee, lunch, or afternoon tea, Remember When has it all. Immediately, it’s hard not to feel at home: the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the room brimming with trinkets to fill you and your mum with nostalgia. Remember When uses fresh and local ingredients, so you know that what you’re eating has been made with love. Only a short distance from the promenade, Remember When is the perfect place to drop by at after a stroll, and offers a wide variety of vegan, gluten and dairy free choices available, so that everybody can enjoy good tea, coffee, and cake. But be careful – you might want to book in advance as this tea room is so popular!
The Refreshment Rooms, Rock Ferry/Birkenhead
Filled with authentic features such as a reinstalled chandelier and photographs of the surrounding area from centuries ago, The Refreshment Rooms takes pride in its heritage – and this shows in the food, which is all sourced locally and responsibly. The Refreshment Rooms offers wonderful views over the Mersey, and is doing a Mother’s Day menu (we recommend the Homemade Steak ‘n’ Ale Pie) – take a look!
Aubergine, West Kirby
Nestled down a side street, Aubergine is home to great cakes, lovely staff, and fantastic afternoon tea. The atmosphere here is warm and intimate. Is there a better way to spend a morning, lunch, or afternoon tea? What makes Aubergine special is its dedication and love of local fresh food, which is reflected in its menu that changes to suit what’s in season. This café offers great vegetarian and vegan alternatives too, such as the popular avocado sandwich (and make sure you try the vegan cake – if there’s any left!) Aubergine is an extremely popular café, so it can get quite busy at times – but this only adds to its charm. You might want to make a reservation before popping in.
Wallasey’s first restaurant to be awarded an ‘AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence’, Canteen combines locally sourced ingredients with excellent service for the most enjoyable dining experience. Definitely try the Key Lime Pie – if you have room for dessert! Canteen is now accepting bookings for Mother’s Day (and are offering a special gift, too), so you and your mum can enjoy elegant dining in a quaint and quiet space.
Irby Mill, Greasby
Sometimes, you just can’t beat pub food, and over at Irby Mill, they’d agree. Located on the site of a former wind mill, the traditional pub prides itself on using fresh local produce such as seasonal vegetables. With a great variation of wholesome food (you can’t go wrong with the Sausage and Mash), you can be sure that you and your mum will leave Irby Mill feeling satisfied and already planning your next visit!
Whether you’re taking your mum out for coffee or for a meal, consider trying a café or restaurant that sources locally, so that you can enjoy great food and know that you’re helping out the community too!
